The original King of Cool Steve McQueen remains a strong face for the brand, where off-screen, his interest in the racing track was a perfect fit for his role as a dedicated TAG Heuer wearer. The modern classics, with square faces do, somehow, demonstrate subtle vintage undertones, which transport the wearer back to the early 1970’s - the era when the first TAG Heuer Monaco was born. TAG Heuer choose slender carved central hands coated in a luminescent treatment for optimum legibility, teamed with anti-reflective and scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass fronts, to allow the wearer instant access to the time at a quick glance. The brand use a unique blend of high quality materials to ensure that the timepieces, like all TAG Heuer watches, are prepared for any imaginable challenge ahead. The alluring black Caliber 12 version is more understated with subtle chronograph scales that evoke a strong sophistication throughout the design. The Caliber 11 models feature two sub-scales at 3 and 9 o’clock, providing a beautiful symmetry across deep blue backdrops. The chronograph function of the TAG Heuer Monaco is a statement in itself. Our favourite hand-picked designs, we feel, best represent the racing industry - demonstrating injections of red colouring across the dial to enhance a sporty feel. Each of the models within the Monaco range, available from Berry’s, are finished on traditional black leather straps for a comfortable fit. The latter features an unusually positioned steel crown at 3 o’clock. Whilst some of the models within the TAG Heuer Monaco range are powered by the Caliber 11 engine, a historically accurate movement with 59 jewel bearings, 28,800 v.p.h and a 40 hour power reserve - others are managed by the stealthy Caliber 12, available in an all-black aesthetic. Integrated with the world’s first automatic chronograph, Steve McQueen sported the very first sightings of the Monaco, strapping it firmly to his wrist in the classic Hollywood 1970 film, “Le Mans” – earning it a legendary status. The TAG Heuer Monaco collection encourages the avid watch enthusiast to connect with the car racing industry.
